The Crash Data Retrieval (CDR) is the latest in accident analysis technology. Not to be confused with the so called 'black box' or crash data recorder used by the commercial airlines, CDR software only downloads 5 seconds of a pre-airbag event and 5 seconds of a post airbag event. The Vetronix Corp. has been working with the GM and Ford since the early 80's to provide public access to the data recorded by the airbag module when there is an airbag deployment event (accident). The data recorded may include speed before deployment, change in velocity (delta-V), post impact speed. The modules may also record additional data including engine speed, throttle position, brake status, seatbelt status and more depending upon the make, model and year of the vehicle. When this data is used in conjunction with an accident reconstruction a more accurate understanding of the speed - distance - time relationships between vehicles can be obtained.
